Yes — lettuce is safe and hydrating, but it's not nutrient-dense. Use it for fun, and darker greens for nutrition.
Keeper's notePrefer darker greens for nutrition; romaine for fun. A wet romaine leaf doubles as a shower — many small birds will leaf-bathe in it.
Why lettuce is good for parrots
Romaine and other lettuces are non-toxic and mostly water, with romaine offering modest folate and vitamin A. Nothing about lettuce is harmful; it just can't compete nutritionally with kale, dandelion, or bok choy. Iceberg in particular is crunchy water.
How to serve it
Wash thoroughly; offer leaves whole or shredded.
Romaine over iceberg when you have the choice.
Great low-calorie volume for birds that love to shred.
